How Strong Libraries Build Strong Schools
With literacy front and center as an academic goal, libraries are obviously an invaluable partner. But in taking a look at the Tuscaloosa City Schools libraries when he became the district’s superintendent, Dr. Mike Daria realized they weren’t relevant for students, weren’t fun, and weren’t being tapped as a partner in leadership and innovation. They also didn’t always have the technology they needed to streamline their operations. Fast forward to 2024, when data shows 90 percent of the district’s third-graders reading at grade level, a 27% increase between 2022 and 2024. Dr. Daria shares his district’s strategies in “How Strong Libraries Build Strong Schools,” published by The Learning Counsel.
